How can we help you learn more about horses?

Is this course right for me?

This the beginning level for most equine caretakers and riders who want to learn more about horses. We start with basic equine behavior, horse identification, terminology, and rules for daily care – all important things to understand regardless of your riding approach.

Look over the checklist of objectives for this Level. If you don’t have 100% confidence in your current knowledge, this course will help give you a stronger foundation.

What will I learn?

How does it work?

Learn at your own pace, on any desktop or mobile device. You can repeat lessons and quizzes as required.

You’ll work your way through several classes with small lessons and little quizzes we call jumps. When you pass the final quiz – known as the Championship Round – you will earn a downloadable, printable certificate and a real Learning Levels ribbon.

How will it help me?

You’ll start your equine adventure with a solid base of beginner knowledge. The more you know, the safer you and your horse will be.

HOWEVER, this course should never be used to replace hands-on experience! You should be supervised by an experienced, qualified instructor whenever working with real live actual horses. ;o)

Want to get in touch with a real person – not a call center in faraway lands? Drop us a line with your question or comment and we’ll do our best to respond quickly.

Like you, we have horses and students and dogs and cats and families to manage, but we check email several times a day so you should hear from us within 24 hours.

We have been blessed with many talented photographers over the years: students who voluntarily stood out in a sweltering/ freezing arena – or slogged up and down our hilly pastures – capturing lifelong memories of camps, clinics, and shows. We’re grateful to all of them!

One such student, Delaney Witbrod, is now a professional photographer with a gift for animal portraits – see more of her fine work here.

You’ll also find illustrations throughout our online courses and printed materials (like study guides) graciously donated by Rhonda Hagy, who is a student and lifelong friend. Contact us for information about her work.
